Pipeline route of a gas distribution pipeline is a line pegged out on a site or on a map that determines the gas pipeline axis position. The route is being determined at the stage of a gas pipeline project development by means of reconnaissance that determine the actual alternatives of the route traced on a map.

The location of a gas pipeline route on a site is determined by the following factors:

  • distance to gas consumers;
  • gas pipelines direction and width;
  • road surface type;
  • buildings and obstacles along the route;
  • terrain;
  • residential blocks layout.

When determining a gas pipeline route it is necessary to minimize the amount of various obstacles (rivers, water bodies, ravines, roads and railways). A gas pipeline route location is one of the hardest and most important stages of gas pipeline design.
