Gas desorption – removing absorbed/adsorbed substances from liquids or solids. Normally is used in the process of absorbents/adsorbents regenerating by way of heating, pressure relief, non-sorbing gases or steam purging, solvent treatment.

Gas desorption from liquid absorbent may go differently depending on the absorption mechanism. In case absorption is based on diffusing gas in liquid (the so-called physical absorption), the reverse process (desorption) goes under temperature increase and pressure relief of the absorbent. This process is used, for example, to extract propane, butane, heavier hydrocarbons, mercaptans and other components from natural gas and associated gas with liquid hydrocarbon mix С6+higher.
