Gas adsorption – a process when gases, vapors or liquids are captured by the surface layer of a solid (adsorbent) or liquid.

Adsorbents usually have very big specific surface area (BET surface) – up to several hundred square meters per gram. Physical adsorption results from dispersion or electric static forces. In case adsorption is accompanied by a chemical reaction between the solute and the sorbent agent, it is called chemisorption. At the industrial sites, adsorption is performed in specialized adsorption tanks; it is used for gas dehydration, organic liquids and water treatment, capturing valuable or hazardous industrial waste.
