Clogging – a process of natural penetration or artificial introduction of small particles and microorganisms into rock pores and fissures, into filters of treatment facilities and drainage systems, and subsequent deposition of chemical substances leading to water and gas conductivity, i.e. permeability. Clogging agents may be carried by liquids and gases.

In oil and gas industry clogging is used for accumulating silt in the bottomhole of injection wells for enhanced oil recovery purposes.
